|
The national organisation "Réseau Ecole et Nature" organizes meetings since 1983. Every year, this event gathers 150 to 200 participants mobilized on an educational theme in the nature and in the environment.
In 2010, these meetings also have for ambition to create solidarities between persons from differents countries and to embody an European citizenship by relations builted in the action.
Objectives to be shared
The aim of the European Meeting 2010 is to join together, in and through action, actors of Environmental Education for Sustainable Development (EESD) from various European countries so they can
* share their teaching practice on the ground,
* exchange various slants on nature, as perceived from different cultural viewpoints,
* contribute, innovate, experience, create…
* produce a dynamics of projects and actions on the European scale,
* support the emergence of a European EESD network.
Participants, actors
Environment, art and culture workers and leaders, actors in the fields of nature or culture, network leaders, persons in charge of an EESD structure, trainers, teachers, specialised educators, sports educators, students, researchers, trainees… as well as anyone, from whichever country in the world, interested in and motivated by nature and environmental education.
Great Moments
The meeting organisation's team seeks to involve every participant actively. It relies on the principles of project and alternation pedagogy, which combines several approaches: alternation between plenary sessions and teamwork, alternation between project workshops, reflexion workshops and exchange workshops, alternation between work and breaks… In this context, creativeness, teamwork, multidisciplinarity, project orientation, on-ground practice and open debates are constant benchmarks for every participant.
* Project workshops: exploration, experimentation of an issue aimed at answering questions in groups, followed by a collective synthesis
* Exchange workshops: times for sharing teaching experiences and presenting educational projects
* Reflexion workshops: times for discussing basic EESD issues
* Conference (title and lecturer to be specified)
* Forum: exhibition space where actors, projects and training tools shall be presented
Nature & Cultures
We all have deep bonds with nature. Source of amazement and wealth, it also gives rise to fear and greed. We perceive nature through the looking glass of our own particular way to look at things. We experience it with our body, our reason, our emotions, and our imagination. These factors are fruits of our own history and culture. There is a direct link between how we look at the world and how we behave. Meeting others, confronting ourselves with other points of view or different ways of thinking often leads us to reconsider what we would previously regard as self-evident and what seemed to be "so natural". If this principle may be observed each time individuals of the same culture meet, it applies all the more to encounters of people stemming from different cultures.
Can the concept of sustainable development operate the transformations necessary for the same culture from which it emanates? In a period where Europe is the keyword, can we lay together the foundations of a common culture which is respectful of existing local cultures?
Some of the questions pertaining to environmental education have become essential issues. They could possibly lead to new slants on our own world. To achieve this, it is necessary for us to try out, create, leave our usual yokes, and to meet “others”, i.e., “different people”. We must share with them, listen to them and understand them... and then perhaps we shall understand each other more easily.
Each of us must have the opportunity to develop his or her own vision. This goal may be achieved by collecting and spreading a great diversity of cultural viewpoints. Last but not least: “Let us be satisfied with the thought, without trying to convince”, as Georges Braque said.
