Working Towards a Common Vision for Tourism in Alpine Protected Areas

Under this project, ALPARC encourages exchanges on the development and marketing of new sustainable tourism products based on the values of protected areas.

Trends such as nature excursions, active mountain holidays and low-impact or sustainable tourism characterize many Alpine tourist destinations’ brand and offer. However, these trends are reinforcing an increasingly resource-heavy tourism which is above all marked by its over-use of some important natural areas. The Alps are lacking sustainable touristic products which are reliable and close-to-nature as well as a taking a position to carry out tourism in a way that does not harm nature, landscapes and local culture. This is where ALPARC ‘s "Destination Parks" project comes in. It aims to promote exchanges between Alpine parks for the development of sustainable tourism and to create a common positioning for these territories on the issue of Alpine tourism.
