Start of the Alpine Space project LUIGI: Linking urban and rural green infrastructure to support the provision of multifunctional ecosystem services in the Alps

On November 27th, the LUIGI project partners met in Milano (IT) to officially launch the project and plan the upcoming project activities.

The LUIGI project is a logical continuation of the ALPARC’s activities carried out on the topic of ecological connectivity within a series of previous projects (ALPBIONET2030, GreenAlps, ECONNECT, etc.). The project aim is to recognise and valorise the joint benefits deriving from green infrastructure (GI) networks between mountain/rural and urban areas and to highlight their potential for a sustainable economic development.

The project consortium brings together 14 partners that will work for 3 years on the economic, environmental and social benefits delivered by green infrastructure elements and ways of developing them. The Lead Partner of this project is the Metropolitan City of Milano (IT). ALPARC is leading a work package on knowledge transfer, offering the possibility not only to support the dissemination of the project results but also to ensure the capitalisation of the numerous experiences existing in the Alps in this field.

LUIGI is an Interreg Alpine Space project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
